Advanced Weekend Workshop at The Lab, Chicago, IL
We wanted to call this workshop Advanced because it is not well suited for absolute beginners. No special skills are needed, but ideally, you should have practiced yoga for a while and be comfortable in poses like Wheel, Titthibhasana A or Forearm balance against a wall, that’s all.
Backbends: Wheels, Shoulder openers and Scorpions

During this class we will explore the fluidity of the spine, the opening of the shoulders and thighs, and the options the Wheel family brings to the table, ending in Scorpions, specially Chin Scorpion. We will discuss the requirements for these more complex backbends poses, warm up for the thoroughly and properly, explore the physical limitations as well as the mental aspect, correct breathing, proper alignment, visualizations and more. Come explore with us and open up to new possibilities in you backbend practice.
Hip Openers: Leg Behind the Head and Yogidandasana

As a perfect unwind for a backbends class, we will dive into the fascinating world of hip opener poses, exploring ways to warm the body for them, discussing the differences between its two main asanas, leg behind the head (Eka Pada Sirsasana) and foot under the armpit (Yogidandasana), playing around with them trying to find a number of ways to access the hips etc. Open your mind to try different variations, arm balances, maybe even combining both Eka Pada Sirsa and Yogidanda into Valgulasana, for those more daring adventurers, but always safely respecting your body’s boundaries. Get ready to deepen the journey and be open to any surprises along the way.
Inversions and Arm Balances

Have you been working on your inversions for a while but have trouble maintaining your balance in the middle of the room, are you looking to deepen your understanding on how to move or press, or are you maybe exploring new ways to lift up into handstand? Then this class is for you. We will discuss the essential elements of a solid inversion as well as the different techniques to press or move in the air while maintaining the balance. This class will help you plant the necessary seeds as well as provide you with several tips/ideas to apply into your practice. It is ideal for people with no shoulder/elbow/wrist issues.
